Billy’s back
Regular market goers will know Billy Auger - one of our smallest producers - with his stall of soft fruits and nuts. The good news is that after another long winter Billy will be back with us this Saturday.

So who says that nothing unusual happens at our Market? On Saturday we were visited by an 18th Century Highwayman (complete with horse, mask and pistols). Unfortunately for him our traders are not the types to be worried by this type of behaviour, and despite his cries of “Your money or your life!” he actually went away with half a dozen eggs, some vegetables and a rather nice pie.
(Thanks to our friends at Saint Nicolas Place for the highwayman).
We ran our Meal Deal offer again, once more it was very succesful, with our beer supplier (Tunnel Brewery) running out of beer! We’re going to rest the offer for a while, but will probably bring it back in the summer.
Our next market is on the 13th June - see you there…
Meal for Two for £10
We’ve got together with nine of our suppliers to offer you a truly fantastic deal - a meal for two for just £10 (£12.50 with wine). With a starter, a main course, a side dish, and drink - all sold to you direct from the people who have made and grown them - we think this is a brilliant way to try new stuff. Or just to save yourselves a few pennies (actually several pounds).
Simply come to our offer stall, at the entrance to the market, have a look at the menu, and if you like what you see buy a set of tokens. You then take the tokens to the stallholders and exchange them for the dishes.
So what’s on the menu?
Starters
Local Italian style salad - Squ!sito
Homemade soup - The Soupery
Main Course
Sea Bass - Robbie’s Fishmonger
Pork Chops - Woodhouse Farm
Turkey Roll - Turkey Talk
Side Orders
Seasonal Vegetables - Malt House Farm
Flavoured Bread - The Bread Pancheon
Rosemary and Garlic Roast Pots - Squ!sito
Drinks
Apple Juice (75cl) - Old Sandlin Fruit Farm
Two Speciality Beers - Tunnel Brewery
Penny Red or Long Acre White Wine - Halfpenny Green Vineyard
Remember that this offer is limited, once we’ve sold out we’ve sold out!
This is not just any offer - this is a Farmers’ Market Offer!
Over the past few months we’ve had the pleasure of visiting musicians from a local music club. In March they provided some superb blues, and in April we enjoyed a variety of folk songs. Those of us who stayed to the end even had the joy of a genuine Irish band… (if they’d read their instructions they would have been their earlier, honest!).
If you have a few moments why not check out the Tower of Song website, and make a point of going along sometime? It’s just down the road from The Green, next to the BP petrol station.
Well, whilst we welcome most people to our market, we weren’t very impressed with the attendance of the BNP at the April market. On behalf of the market I want to make a couple of things clear:
1) We don’t allow any political parties to have a presence at the market.
2) The market is for all people, regardless of their race.
3) The market is run by the local community, and we don’t appreciate people who aren’t local coming here and spreading messages of hate (just to be clear, I’m referring to the BNP here).
