It’s Festival Time!

Monday, July 6th, 2009

We’re looking forward to another great market this Saturday.  Summer is with us - we’ve got heavy rain, we didn’t do as well at Wimbledon as we hoped, and we’re about to suffer at the hands of the Australians… but we do have delicious strawberrys to make us feel happy!

This Saturday is also the Kings Norton Festival, so when you’ve shopped your heart out why not pop along to Saint Nicolas Place (or the Saracen’s Head if you prefer) and have a look?  Lots of fun activities for all the family!

May Market happenings…

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

So who says that nothing unusual happens at our Market? On Saturday we were visited by an 18th Century Highwayman (complete with horse, mask and pistols). Unfortunately for him our traders are not the types to be worried by this type of behaviour, and despite his cries of “Your money or your life!” he actually went away with half a dozen eggs, some vegetables and a rather nice pie.

(Thanks to our friends at Saint Nicolas Place for the highwayman).

We ran our Meal Deal offer again, once more it was very succesful, with our beer supplier (Tunnel Brewery) running out of beer! We’re going to rest the offer for a while, but will probably bring it back in the summer.

Our next market is on the 13th June - see you there…

March Farmers Market - Look forward to Spring

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

With the weather brightening up (we hope) its time to get out your walking shoes and head on down to the market.

We’re planning some really exciting offers for later in the year, but in the meantime why not check out the Fairtrade stall, back by popular demand at our March Market. We may miss Fairtrade Fortnight this year, but that’s no reason not to think about the food we buy.

If you want to join our email list, giving you early notice of market attendees and offers.

Kings Norton Farmers Market

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

In June
we celebrated our 3rd birthday - or 392nd if you start from our Patent.
The Patent is from the time of James I (and VI if you’re Scottish),
and grants the right to hold a market in Kings Norton.

Interestingly it makes a statement not unlike our commitment as a Community Interest
Company, that the market should be for the benefit of the inhabitants
of Kings Norton. Of course, being a CIC means that our long term aim
of supporting our community becomes enforceable by law. Fortunately
modern law and not that of King James! So if anyone says that we are
a ‘commercial organisation’ tell them they’re lying…

We are a Certified Farmers Market. Only one other market in Birmingham
(Moseley) has achieved this! Certification means that we are recognised
as meeting the exacting standards of FARMA,
the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association.

For the second year running we have been voted the Midlands farmers Market
of the Year by FARMA!

We’re proud to have been ranked number 4 in The Times’ 12
Best Farmers’ Markets
.

We were also listed in The Independent’s 50Best Markets, and amongst their
5 Great Farmers’ Markets - a welcome suprise!
